In short
Full medical underwriting means you answer detailed health questions up front so the insurer confirms exactly what is covered from the start.
With full medical underwriting, you complete detailed health questions when you apply, and the insurer assesses your history before cover begins. This gives you clarity from the outset about which conditions are covered and which, if any, are excluded.
This approach is the alternative to moratorium underwriting, where recent pre-existing conditions are excluded automatically and may become covered later. Full medical underwriting takes more effort to set up but removes much of the uncertainty about pre-existing conditions.
The trade-off is the up-front disclosure required. As with any underwriting, answering the questions fully and accurately is essential, because non-disclosure could affect a future claim regardless of which approach is used.
