In short
Postponement is when an insurer delays its decision on an application, often until you have been stable or symptom-free for a period.
When an application is postponed, the insurer is not declining cover but holding off on a decision for the time being. This often happens where you are awaiting tests or results, have recently had treatment, or need to be stable or symptom-free for a set period before terms can be offered.
Postponement is a normal underwriting outcome, not a permanent refusal. Once the postponement period has passed, or the relevant results are available, you can usually reapply and the insurer will reassess.
If an application is postponed, it is worth understanding why and when you can apply again. An adviser may also be able to identify an insurer that is comfortable offering terms sooner for your particular situation.
